About Us

What Makes Us Different

Green Valley Gardening is a Wellington-based garden maintenance and landscaping company, founded in 2020 and now one of the region's most trusted names in professional garden care.

We work with private homeowners, commercial property owners, embassy and diplomatic residences, and institutions across Wellington City, the Hutt Valley, Kāpiti Coast, Waikanae and the Wairarapa. Our clients choose us because they want their gardens maintained to a consistently high standard — and because they value working with a team they can trust to turn up, do excellent work, and communicate clearly.

With a five-person team, three dedicated service vehicles, and over 40 years of combined horticultural experience, we have the capacity and expertise of a professional operation — with the personal attention and accountability of a business built on long-term relationships.

Every property we maintain receives a tailored programme, carried out with battery-powered equipment, premium plant treatments, and the kind of detail that only comes from people who genuinely care about their craft.

Quality Products

We use professional-grade fertilisers, treatments, and horticultural products across all of our maintenance programmes — selected for both performance and environmental integrity. Your garden receives the best, every visit.

Eco Friendly Tools

Our full tool fleet is battery-powered — quiet, emission-free, and precise. We work without the noise and disruption of petrol equipment, which matters in the premium residential and diplomatic properties we maintain.

Glyphosate free

We don't use glyphosate. We manage weeds through organic alternatives and careful manual methods that are safer for your garden, your household, and the wider environment.

About Me

About Hamish Murray — Founder & Director

Hamish Murray founded Green Valley Gardening in 2020 after more than a decade working in professional horticulture across Wellington. He trained at Wellington Institute of Technology and spent years working on some of the region's most demanding properties before establishing GVG with a clear vision: to build a company that takes genuine pride in its work, develops great people, and earns the lasting trust of clients who hold their gardens to a high standard.

Six years on, that vision is the reality. GVG now maintains some of Wellington's finest private gardens, embassy and diplomatic residences, and landmark horticultural properties — including Woodcote Gardens in Upper Hutt, which achieved a prestigious 4-Star rating with the New Zealand Gardens Trust as a Garden of Significance under GVG's care.

Hamish remains deeply hands-on across the business — in the field four days a week, personally quoting all new work, and maintaining close relationships with every client on the books. That direct involvement isn't incidental. It's the reason the standard stays high.
