Hedge Trimming & Topiary

Hedges and topiary demand skill, patience, and the right tools. A poorly trimmed hedge — uneven lines, a heavy-handed finish, butchered topiary — is immediately obvious to anyone who knows gardens. Getting it right requires experience with the plant, the tool, and the eye.

GVG's team works with a combination of battery-powered hedge trimmers and Japanese hand shears to deliver sharp, clean results on everything from simple formal hedges to complex topiary specimens. We're experienced across all hedge species common to Wellington gardens — buxus, corokia, pittosporum, murraya, laurel, griselinia, mānuka and more.

We also carry out box blight prevention and treatment programmes in partnership with TopBuxus — an essential service for any Wellington garden with significant buxus plantings, particularly as the disease becomes increasingly prevalent in the region.

We're comfortable working from formal design plans and equally happy advising clients directly on species selection, placement, and seasonal combinations.
